Ivalo reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Inari reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located in the southern part of Inari. In east it neighbours with Russia. In south with Lappi, in west with Hammastunturi and in north with Paatsjoki herding cooperatives.
90.2 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 9.8 % is owned by other landowners. Saariselkä tourism centre and part of the Urho Kekkonen National Park are located in the cooperative area.
Calve marking and round ups are held in Moitakuru, Juurakkomaa, Kettujärvi, Martinjärvi, Mutalampi, Petäjäjärvi and Kostiatalasvaara. In addition, the cooperative can rent Rajajooseppi fence area from Lappi reindeer herding cooperative if needed.
The villages located in the cooperative area are: Ivalo, Törmänen, Akujärvi, Veskoniemi, Nellimi and Saariselkä. Herders live in nearly all of these villages.
