Lohijärvi reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Western reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located mainly to the Ylitornio municipality. Small part in the north is on the Pello municipality area. The cooperative borders in west with the Swedish border, in north with Orajärvi, in east with Palojärvi cooperatives, and in south with Tornio municipality border. It is also the border of the reindeer husbandry area.

The land in the cooperative area is almost entirely owned by private people. 6.4 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 93.6 % is owned by other landowners. The cooperative operates in the southern border of the reindeer husbandry area and there is no fence in that border.

Habitants are located to the centre of Ylitornio, Lohijärvi, Mellakoski and Portimojärvi. It is spread fairly evenly around the cooperative area. Almost all herders have a farm. There is only one herder that is focused on reindeer herding.
