Muonio reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Pallastunturi reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the Muonio municipality (80 %) and also Kolari and Kittilä municipalities.
The cooperative borders in west with Sweden. In north with Näkkälä, in east wth Kyrö and Alakylä, and in south with Kolari.
66.5 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 33.5 % is owned by other landowners. The Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is located to the North-East and East of the cooperative area.
The main round up fence is Lamumaa that also has a big feeding area. Other fences are in Sainkangas, Rautuvaara, Käkivaara, Ahvenkielinen, Hangasmaa, Luusunselkä, Juutilainen and Tiuraselkä.
There are two big tourist centres in the cooperative area: Äkäslompolo-Yllästunturi and Olostunturi. There is a wind farm in Olos and an iron ore mine is planned to Hannukainen in Kolari.
Most of the population is located to the River Muoniojoki side and villages near road 21. Most people live in Muonio, which is in the centre of the cooperative.
