Narkaus reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Itäkemijoki reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the Rovaniemi, Tervola and Ranua municipalities. The cooperative borders in north with Poikajärvi, in east with Vanttaus and Niemelä, in south with Isosydänmaa and Kuukas and in west with Palojärvi cooperatives.
34.8 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 65.2 % is owned by other landowners. There is Suhanko palladium mining claim area, Kakariaava mire reserve area, Runkaus strict nature reserve area, and Rakkaviita and Poikkimaa peat production sites.
The cooperative has a comprehensive fence network, with 10 immovable fences. Transferable fences are used when needed.
The most significant habitant area is the Rovaniemi city. There are several villages such as Rautionsaari, Kivitaipale, Portimojärvi, Narkaus and Jokela. There are also people living in the areas of the Ranua and Tervola municipalities.
