Niemelä reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Itäkemijoki reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the areas of Rovaniemi, Ranua and Posio municipalities.The cooperative borders in north with Vanttaus, in east with Timisjärvi and Posion Livo, in south with Pudasjärven Livo and Kuukas, and in west with Narkaus cooperatives.

46.6 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 53.4 % is owned by other landowners.
