It borders in north with Kolari, in east with Palojärvi and in south with Lohijärvi cooperatives. In west with the Swedish border.

29.0 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 71.0 % is owned by other landowners. There is a railway connection between Tornio and Kolari that is used by passenger and freight trains. The railway goes through the Orajärvi cooperative along the riverside of Torniojoki. There are two peat production sites.

The main round up fences are in Kuivalaki, Pekanmaa, Koppelo and Puonavaara. There is a 37 kilometer border fence between Orajärvi and Kolari cooperatives. There is also a 50 kilometre fence built to keep reindeer away from the railway.

The centre of Pello municipality is located to the cooperative area. There are old houses and particularly many holiday cottages. Pello, Turtola, Juoksinki and Lankojärvi are the biggest villages in the Orajärvi cooperative area.
