Palojärvi reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Western reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the Rovaniemi, Pello, Ylitornio and Tervola municipalities. The cooperative borders in north with Jääskö and Kolari, in east with Poikajärvi and in west with Lohijärvi and Orajärvi, and in south with Narkaus cooperatives.

42.7 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 57.3 % is owned by other landowners. There is Pisavaara strict nature reserve area, which is one of the oldest in Finland. In addition, there are some mire reserves in the area.

The cooperative has around 30 immovable fences. The fences that are not used anymore have been removed.

The biggest centre in the cooperative area is Rovaniemi city. Herders live evenly around the cooperative area.
