Pintamo reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Pudasjärvi reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the Pudasjärvi (75 %), Taivalkoski (15 %) and Puolanka (10 %) municipalities. The south the cooperative border goes along the southern border of the reindeer husbandry area, in west with Pudasjärvi, in northwest with Pudasjärven Livo, in southeast with Taivalkoski and in east with Näljänkä cooperative.
56.3 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 43.7 % is owned by other landowners. There are several Natura areas in the cooperative. Part of the Syöte National Park and Iso-Syöte camping area are located to the northern part of the cooperative. The Road 20 from Oulu to Kuusamo goes through the cooperative in north. There are lot of car accidents involving reindeer in the area.
The cooperative has five fences: Alakangas, Sulakanga, Pirinkangas, Ruuhivaara and Kurkikangas. There are hundreds of kilometres of fences around farmers’ fields.
There is little amount of habitants in the area and it is mainly focused on the lake and riversides. There are no bigger towns in the cooperative area. Villages include Jurmu, Iinattijärvi, Jaurakka and Puhos. There are currently five farm focused on reindeer herding or other nature based livelihoods.
