Salla reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Salla reindeer marking district. Most of the cooperative is located to the Salla municipality and small parts to Kemijärvi, Pelkosenniemi and Savukoski municipalities.
The cooperative borders in east with Russia. In south with Alakitka and Tolva, in west with Hirvasniemi, in northwest with Oraniemi and in north with Kemin-Sompio and Pohjois-Salla cooperatives.
36.1 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 63.9 % is owned by other landowners. Oulanka National Park is partly and Salla skiing centre fully located to the cooperative area.
The cooperative has set fence areas, but transferable fences are used more often nowadays.
The population is mainly focused to the centre of Salla and elsewhere it is divided equally between different villages.
