Year 2013

Norwegians broad research on reindeer behaviour during the mating season continued.

There was also another continuing project done by Norwegian and Canadian researchers together. Their research was about suckling new born calves and monitoring them.

Year 2012

Norwegians continued their broad research on reindeer behaviour during the mating season.

Oulu university and RKTL (now called Natural Resources Institute Finland) also continued their research project on reindeer using ergot.

A new project started on suckling new born calves and monitoring them. This was a co-research with Norwegians and Canadian.

Year 2011

Norwegian, broad research on the behaviour of reindeer during the mating season continued. GPS-collars were used in the research.

The research project by Oulu university and RKTL (now called Natural Resources Institute Finland) focused on reindeer eating ergot (Claviceps purpurea). The research was part of a PHD research “Torajyvä Suomessa: levinneisyys, monimuotoisuus, kantojen alkaloidipitoisuudet ja ekologiset vuorovaikutussuhteet”. In an earlier research in the station (10.12.2009) it was tested if reindeer avoid eating ergot when it is mixed to other nourishment.
