Kuivasalmi reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Kittil\u00e4 reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the northwest part of the Kittil\u00e4 municipality. The cooperative borders in north with N\u00e4kk\u00e4l\u00e4 and Sallivaara, in east with Sattasniemi and Lappi, in south with Alakyl\u00e4 and in west with Kyr\u00f6 herding cooperatives.<\/p>\n

78.8 % of the cooperative\u2019s total area is state land and 21.2 % is owned by other landowners. The northern part of the cooperative reaches Lemmenjoki National Park. In the northwest there is Pulju wilderness area and in the northeast corner relatively small area of the Hammastunturi wilderness area.<\/p>\n

The Suurkuusikko gold mine in Kittil\u00e4 is located to the centre of the cooperative. The mine has been operating since 2009. There is project to broaden the mine toward Kuotko. \u00a0Enlargement of the operations requires building a new tailing pool and broadening of the mining district. Another significant and growing industry in the area is tourism. Levi tourism centre is located into the cooperative area. In addition a wind farm will be built in the Kuolavaara-Keulakkop\u00e4\u00e4 area.<\/p>\n

The main round up fences are in Kursuj\u00e4rvenmaa and Sammalselk\u00e4.<\/p>\n

The cooperative area is sparsely populated. The most important villages area Pulju, Lompolo, K\u00f6ng\u00e4s-Rauduskyl\u00e4, Hanhimaa, Pokka, Kuivasalmi, Kiistala, Jeesi\u00f6j\u00e4rvi and Tepsa. The centre of Kittil\u00e4 does not belong to the cooperative area.<\/p>\n
