Brown Bear (Ursus arctos)
A bear kills reindeer in the whole reindeer husbandry area during the time it is awake. The damages are particularly noticeable in the late spring and early summer. It eats the new born calves as it has just woken after long winter and its energy reserves are low.
Usually bears eat all of their catch; hence there is nothing to be found. Â Therefore it is difficult to make exact statistics on what the damages are. However, influence of the bears is most clearly seen on the calves.
