Using carrions to Photograph Large Carnivores
Photographing large carnivores and attracting them with using a carrion, is currently unregulated in Finland. There are no researches on the effects of these spots. The current situation causes massive problems particularly in the southern reindeer husbandry area, where it is more actively done. These types of photographing spots attract even more large carnivores in already dense areas.
The reindeer damages grow in the area and nearby. This is why photographing large carnivores with a help of carrions causes significant losses for reindeer herders. Metsähallitus does not give permissions for these activities in state lands. Private lands need to be regulated soon and research is needed to give background information for it.
