Lynx (Lynx lynx)
Lynx has spread all the way to the northernmost parts of the reindeer husbandry area. Previously it was unknown up North, but it has become rapidly more common. At the same time, the damages it causes have grown. Lynx is depended on reindeer as there is not much other food on offer for it in the reindeer husbandry area.
The lynx kills reindeer around the year, but it has to hunt more in the winter time. It is because a lynx cannot eat frozen meat due to its weak jaw.
Lynx is also a useful animal as it keeps the small predator populations in reasonable numbers. However, to keep the lynx population manageable in relation to reindeer herding, active population management has to be practised.
