Sattasniemi reindeer herding cooperative is part of the Sodankylä reindeer marking district. The cooperative is located to the Sodankylä municipality. The cooperative borders in north with Lappi, in east with Oraniemi, in south with Syväjärvi and in west Kuivasalmi cooperatives.

85.9 % of the cooperative’s total area is state land and 14.1 % is owned by other landowners. There are reserve areas in Pomokaira and Kaarestunturi that comprise 31.5 % of the total area. In addition, there are five reservoirs for water power production. There is also Pahtavaara gold mine that is not currently working. Sodankylä garrison is also located in the cooperative area.

The main round up fences are Kautoselkä and Sattasvaara. Other fences are in Kurkiperävaara, Kaarresselkä, Hirvilauttanen, Vanttio, Poksaselkä, Kuorajoki, VUoromarova, Salmuri and Kunnanen.

The population is strongest in the centre of Sodankylä. Rajala village is in the centre of the cooperative and other villages (Kersilö, Sattanen, Jeesiö and Sodankylä) are located on the sides of the cooperative.
